Hi, I’m Katja. I write fiction and non-fiction

I’ve always written.

I can’t help it. My earliest writings include a tale about a vampire handwritten in blood-red pen and a short play about a visit to the dentist, performed with hand puppets at my elementary school recital.

I write to share experiences and ideas so that others might see what I see, feel what I feel. It’s my desire to capture stories like in a snowglobe that I can shake up and show to friends. Look how it sparkles! Isn’t it fascinating?

My life started on the other side of the Iron Curtain in the authoritarian police state of East Germany, a place you weren’t allowed to leave. A place you weren’t allowed a great many things. I was a young teen when the Berlin Wall fell. It took a moment to readjust to the new world order. Once I did, I jumped on this rocket called Freedom and explored the rest of the world. I spent my 20s in London, Berlin, Pretoria, Tokyo and traveled the world over until I went to NYC and couldn’t tear myself away for over a decade.

I’m now based in Los Angeles and write novels, essays, and short fiction.
